Chestnut of Combai IGP

Chestnuts

Description

Marrone di Combai is a typical agricultural product of the Veneto region, which has been granted the PGI mark.

The production area coincides with the territories of 11 municipalities in northern Treviso Province, distributed along the piedmont area from Piave to the Friuli border: Cison di Valmarino, Cordignano, Follina, Miane, Fregona, Revine Lago, Sarmede, Segusino, Tarzo, Valdobbiadene and Vittorio Veneto.

Combai chestnut comes from the subspecies Domestica macrocarpa of Castanea sativa, ecotype “Marrone di Combai.” The particularities of this fruit are closely influenced by the geographical environment, with such orography and soil as to favor quality chestnut cultivation.

Chestnuts are harvested between September 15 and November 15.
