ASSOCIAZIONE MARRONI DI COMBAI

The Combai Chestnut Producers’ Association was founded in Combai di Miane in 1995 with the aim of bringing together all the chestnut producers in the foothill chestnut-growing area, best identified by the territory of the then Mountain Community of the Treviso Prealps, and to define and implement common strategies for enhancing, improving and marketing the product.

The Association has directed and directs its efforts in the development and enhancement of fruit chestnut cultivation through the aggregation of producers, improvement and quality control, and development of suitable cultivation techniques. Numerous services have been proposed and guaranteed to members such as on-farm technical assistance, supply of selected propagating material (scions for grafting and pregerminated fruits for new plantings), provision of specialized personnel to carry out pruning and grafting, and training courses.

In 2000 the number of registered members increased to 183 (60 in 1995, 132 in 1999). The production potential of the associated chestnut growers is currently around 600 to 700 quintals of chestnuts while the entire district is capable of providing production exceeding 1,000 quintals.

In 2009, Marrone di Combai acquired the PGI mark.
