CONSORZIO TUTELA DEL VINO CONEGLIANO VALDOBBIADENE PROSECCO

In 1962, a group of 11 producers, representing the major sparkling wine houses and winemakers’ cooperatives, formed the Consortium for the Protection of Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene, proposing a production specification to protect the quality and image of their wine. Seven years later, on April 2, 1969, their efforts were rewarded with the recognition by the Ministry of Agriculture of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene as a DOC area for the production of Prosecco and Superiore di Cartizze. With this act for the first time the production of Prosecco was recognized by law and formally regulated by institutions. The Consorzio di Tutela brings together the producers of the appellation with the aim of protecting and promoting Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore in Italy and around the world.
In 2009, with the reorganization of the Prosecco appellations, the Ministry of Agriculture classified it as a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG), Italy’s highest quality designation.
