MUNICIPALITY OF SUSEGANA

Description

In the setting of the Marca Trevigiana, Susegana is worth a visit perhaps just for the landscape one passes through and admires.

An unraveling of dirt roads and paths where streams, stone bridges, cottages scattered among rows of vines and dense scrubland.

It has a small church, which, however, holds interesting 15th-century frescoes, and is dominated by the castle of St. Savior, which stands high on a hill and in whose silhouette you may have come across some of Cima da Conegliano’s country work. A historic residence of the Counts of Collalto and now a private residence, which can be visited, however, by appointment, it is still intact with a double circle of walls, almost a fortress within a fortress, with crenellated towers, gardens, streams, a relais, and an educational farm.

Also from Susegana, another route instead passes near Collalto Castle, of which, however, only a tower remains.
