Asolani Hills Cherry

Plant products in their natural or processed state

Description

The Colli Asolani cherry is a typical variety grown in the hills surrounding Asolo, in the province of Treviso. These cherries are distinguished by firm, juicy and sweet flesh, with a perfect balance between acidity and sugars, favored by the ventilated and temperate microclimate of the hillside area. Cultivation is done in the traditional way, with manual intervention and respect for seasonality: harvesting is concentrated between late May and mid-June. There are several local cultivars, including Sandra, Moretta and Durone Nero, which enrich the fruit biodiversity of the area. The Asolo Hills cherry is the star of festivals and farmers’ markets, where it is sold fresh or made into jams, syrups and typical desserts. This fruit is also at the center of agribusiness promotion pathways that aim to enhance Veneto’s hillside crops and preserve ancient varieties at risk of disappearing.
