Monfumo Apple

Plant products in their natural or processed state

Description

The Monfumo apple is a historic variety grown in the Treviso hills, between the Asolani hills and Monte Grappa. It is distinguished by its rusticity and natural resistance to disease, which enables low-impact agriculture. Fruits are small to medium, with opaque, slightly russet skin and crisp, juicy, slightly tart flesh. This apple is prized for its long shelf life and unmistakable fragrance, making it perfect for both fresh consumption and cooking. It was widespread until the mid-20th century, when it was gradually replaced by more commercial varieties. In recent years, thanks to interest in biodiversity and the recovery of native cultivars, it has made a comeback thanks to projects promoted by local farmers and associations. The Monfumo apple is now a symbol of sustainable agriculture and rural identity.
